Viking Archer Unit 1

A milestone reached!

My Saga warband’s first unit completed and overall I’m fairly happy with the results.

As with any army painting project the real satisfaction comes not from the individual miniatures/ paint jobs but from their collective impact.

It’s this that provides the motivation to continue. Now, to start cleaning up the next unit.

Viking Archer 6

The last of my first batch of archer levy; disappointed that I’ve not done justice to my favourite sculpt among this unit.

Perhaps an off day or, more likely, due to having one eye on the miniature and another on the latest episode of The Walking Dead (becoming interesting again, isn’t it?).

The gem brooches on the belts are not a good idea and although this paint job was far quicker than the previous archers it’s less smooth.

Will do better next time.

Viking Archer 5

Another archer finished; he looks better in the company of his fellows.

I’m still struggling to achieve the right finish on the leg bindings...

Viking Archer 4

Old hairy breeches is the fourth archer in my growing levy.

A solid, simple sculpt that paints up fairly well, although I somewhat regret the distinctly 1990s GW era gem (look at the size of it!) on the belt.

Viking Archer 3

Archer number three completed and happier with the results; especially the more balanced, natural feeling, colour scheme and tones.

This being one of the better sculpts among the archers in the range certainly helped, too.

Having fun adding rocks, moss and flowers to the bases on these vikings but it can be annoyingly fiddly work.
