Greater Daemon of Nurgle

Whilst browsing one of the many Warhammer groups on Facebook I came across a (rather poor) image of the late-90s Greater Daemon of Nurgle, which I painted in around ‘97.

This was one of my favourite pieces during my tenure at GW.

At the time is was considered a large, bold and dynamic miniature that pushed the boundaries in terms of scale and scope compared to the original Great Unclean Ones (who could have imagined the levels CAD and plastics would eventually reach a couple of decades later!)

The inspiration for the colour scheme was Wayne England’s art, which he said was based on a rotting apple.

Viking Fatigue Markers

Upon learning of the fatigue marker system in Saga, I was determined not to make do with placing dice or cardboard counters besides units to indicate their fatigue count.

I wanted casualty miniatures based with a dial to indicate fatigue — the original Adeptus Titanicus bases immediately came to mind.

Unable to source such plastic bases, I eventually came across two-part MDF bases from Customeeple. Available in a variety of sizes, I opted for the 32mm diameter bases to ensure they would accommodate the casualty miniatures comfortably, while not looking ‘too big’ compared to the my warbands’ bases.

The top and bottom of each base is secured, and able to rotate, by magnets.

A reasonable solution overall, although in future I’ll mask off the lower dial surface before painting the edge of the base black...

Viking Warrior Units

With the last of the warriors with shields completed, I now have two core units of warriors (2 saga points) and just need to paint a warlord and standard bearer to have a playable 5 point warband.

Once that’s done, the plan is to create some wounded counters for the Vikings and give some attention to my Anglo Saxons…

Viking Warriors with Shields

After an interminable wait, both the Little Big Man Studio transfers and Victrix dark age plastic shields became available, allowing me to bring the initial 5 points of my Viking warband’s troops to completion.

The quality, ease of application and finish of the LBM transfers cannot be over-stated.
